«Що таке День Подяки?» або декілька фактів про історію та традиції свята.

      Останній четвер листопада учні  11 класу ознайомили всіх присутніх з традиціями  американців. З найголовнішим святом Thanksgiving Day.

       «День подяки : від минулого до сьогодення»

Thanksgiving is America's preeminent day.

It is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in the month of November.   Its origin can be traced back to the 16th century when the first thanksgiving dinner had taken place.

День подяки – це американське свято. Його святкують кожного року в четвертий четвер листопаду. А як виник день подяки?  А почалося все ще в 16 столітті, коли  відбувся перший святковий обід на честь подяки Богу.

Journey of Pilgrims

The legendary pilgrims crossed the Atlantic in the year 1620 in Mayflower. 102 people traveled for nearly two months with extreme difficulty. No one was allowed to go on the deck due to terrible storms.

А почало все з того, що бідні люди в Англії не могли терпіти знущання свого короля, який примушував їх прийняти іншу віру. І от самі сміливі люди 1620 року вирушили на кораблі  МЕЙФЛАУЕ до нового світу , на континент сучасної  Америки.  На борту корабля було 102 мандрівника- пілгріми.  Вони перетинали Атлантичний океан  2 місяці в надзвичайно складних умовах. За бортом вирував  шторм.

Arrival to Plymouth

The pilgrims reached Plymouth Rock on December 11th 1620, after a sea journey of 66 days. Though the original destination was somewhere in the northern part of Virginia, they could not reach the place owing to winds blowing them off course.   46 pilgrims died due to extreme cold in winter. However, in the spring of 1621, Squanto, a native Indian taught the pilgrims to survive by growing food.

 Після небезпечної подорожі протягом 66 днів , 11 грудня прибули мандрівники до  Америки, на територію сучасного штату Масачусетс. Була зима,  мороз. Через голод і холод 46 людей померло. Та прийшла весна. Врятував переселенців корінний житель , індієць Скванто. Він навчив плем»я вирощувати зернові.  Плем»я пілгрімів боролось за життя. Вони молилися богу і говорили,- «Ми переможемо».

Day of Fasting and Prayer

In the summer of 1621 pilgrims called for a day of fasting and prayer to please God and ask for a beautiful harvest in the coming season. God answered their prayers and it rained at the end of the day. It saved the corn crops.

 Бог почув молитви пілгрімів і подарував їм дощ. Цей дощ врятував врожай .  

 First Thanksgiving Feast

  Pilgrims learnt to grow corn, beans and pumpkins from the Indians, which helped all of them to survive. In the autumn of 1621, they held a grand celebration where 90 people were invited including Indians.  It was “The first thanksgiving feast”.  

Пілгіми навчилися вирощувати кукурудзу, бобові, гарбузи. І все це завдяки місцевим індіанцям.  Восени 1621 року переселенці зібрали свій перший врожай і  влаштували грандіозне свято  , дякуючи  Богу за врожай ,   на яке запросили своїх рятівників.

Turkey and First Thanksgiving Feast

 Turkey was a part of the initial feast. The food included, ducks, geese, venison, fish, berries etc...

Індичка була найсмачнішим частуванням на святі подяки. І чого тільки не було на святковому столі : оленина, гуси, качки, риба, ягоди .

Pumpkin and Thanksgiving Feast

Pumpkin pie was a part of the first thanksgiving feast.

А головним десертом на святі був Гарбузовий пиріг! 

The feast continued for three days.   

І продовжувалось це свято три дні!

After a number of events and changes, President Lincoln proclaimed last Thursday in November of thanksgiving in the year 1863.

 А згодом , в 1863 році, президент Америки  Абрахам Лінкольн, проголосив четвертий четвер листопаду Днем подяки.

9) Thanksgiving Day is a communal celebration marked as a sense of gratitude people feel for all the good things in life. This is done by offering prayers, gifting your near and dear ones. The fourth Thursday in the month of November is marked for the yearly celebration. 

  З тих пір святкують день подяки кожного року. Сучасні американці висловлюють свою вдячність Богу, своїм рідним та близьким. Зранку йдуть до церкви, а потім влаштовують святковий обід.

10) Family Reunion and Feasting

Family feast is an important tradition during Thanksgiving. The entire family sits at the table during dinner  . It is also a time for relatives living in different places to come together and celebrate.

  Сьогодні це сімейне свято. Вся родина збирається за святковим столом.  Саме на це свято всі родичі, де б вони не жили, збираються разом і святкують День подяки.

11) Tradition of Turkey

The traditional stuffed turkey adorns every dinner table during the feast. Pumpkin pie, Cranberry sauce, Corns are some of the dishes cooked everywhere to mark the day. 

Фарширована індичка традиційно прикрашає  стіл кожної американської родини.  Також готують гарбузовий пиріг, страви  з соусом   клюкви,  кукурудзи.

  Давайте поглянемо, чим сучасні американці пригощаються.  

12) Parades

The traditional Thanksgiving parade probably started with President Lincoln proclaiming it an official day. The full-dress parade is a way to display the country's military strength and discipline. 

В Нью-Йорку проходить грандіозний парад, організований найбільшим універмагом Macy's з 1927 р. Його головна визначна пам'ятка - надувні іграшки величезних розмірів (герої мультфільмів, казок і телепередач), які проносять від Центрального парку до входу в універмаг - навпаки Хералд-сквер (між Шостим авеню і Бродвеєм). Напередодні параду відбувається церемонія надування іграшок. Увечері над протокою Іст-Рівер влаштовується феєрверк. Парад показують в прямій трансляції по телебаченню.
